In our office, we offer conscious sedation for those of our patients who are anxious at the dentist. If you wanna be sedated, we have two options for you.
Conscious Sedation Dentistry Options
For both of our sedation options, you will be conscious.
Nitrous oxide
You probably know nitrous oxide as laughing gas. It has been used in dental sedation since 1844!
Unless you are pregnant, you are most likely a great candidate for nitrous oxide sedation.
Once the effects of nitrous oxide kick in, most patients find they are much more relaxed and don’t care about what is going on around them.  You might feel your fingers tingling a little bit.
Halcion
Halcion is a pill that you take an hour before your dental appointment. This method is much stronger and is for patients with severe anxiety.
It will make it dangerous to drive, so if you decide to use Halcion, you must have someone drive you to and from your appointment.
Halcion is similar to Valium. They are both Benzodiazepines.
You will still be wide awake while you are under the effects of Halcion. Afterwards, however, you probably won’t remember much; which is a real shame because we love to pamper our patients when they are here.
We really try to make you as comfortable as possible. If going to the dentist causes you to have severe anxiety, we have these conscious sedation options to help you relax!
