What I’ve learned as a Dental Hygienist

Posted .

There are things you just don’t learn in dental school. Over the years, as a hygienist at Marea White, DDS, I’ve learned an awful lot about people.

For most people. the dentist is a painful experience. I see so many patients who are visibly nervous when they sit down in my chair. This is totally normal, but my training had very little to do with this.

Comfort Menu

So, we’ve developed the comfort menu.

When I notice a patient acting nervous, I love to offer a blanket, pillow, or ear buds. Sometimes I dim the overhead lights. I offer a little nitrous oxide as well. I like to give the feeling of being at a medspa. It relaxes my patients and makes the whole appointment go a whole lot smoother.

I wish I had known this when I was fresh out of dental school. Experience is a fantastic teacher, though! A dental visit does not have to be a painful experience!

Relax

For me, it’s all about personal care…your teeth are not the only important thing. Your experience, your well-being when you are with me, matters too! And, I genuinely want to help you.

If you have been putting off a trip to the dentist, give us a call; we would love to help in any way we can.
