3 Reasons We Use Digital Imaging

Posted .

Gone are the days of being shown to the x-ray room, having x-rays taken as you sit in the dark, and then being forced to wait up to 15 minutes for your x-rays to develop. Then, your dentist and hygienist must take the time to read them.

Well, no more! Traditional x-rays are quickly becoming a thing of the past.

Here at Marea White, we use digital imaging for three reasons.

  • Digital Images are More Precise

Digital x-rays can be magnified, sharpened, and colorized for a more precise diagnosis. Within seconds we have a clear 360-degree view of the condition of your teeth. We are able to move the view and see all sides of each tooth. Even tiny areas of decay are a lot more visible and therefore treatable at an early stage.

Trust us, this is a great thing!

2. Digital Images are Safer

Digital radiography is actually less radiation exposure than you receive from natural sunlight. So, you could say that digital images are healthier for you in the long run!

Just to compare, a traditional dental x-ray gives you a 0.09 mSv dose of radiation, while a trip in an airplane causes 0.005 mSv/hour of travel. Humans naturally receive 3mSv’s per year of radiation from the sun, rocks, radon, and technology, combined.

A digital image of your mouth, twice yearly, is far less harmless than sunlight!

3. Digital Images are faster

Your appointment moves along at a much faster rate with absolutely no wait times for those x-rays. We understand that no matter how much you like us as people, you want to spend as little time in the dentist chair as possible.

Digital imaging makes that possible!
